2421 - VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Board of Education shall meet its legal obligation to provide a vocational education program by:
| A. | participation in the Millstream Cooperative Vocational School District. | ||
| B. | providing a vocational education program within this District. | ||
| C. | contracting for such services with Millstream Cooperative Vocational School District. |
In order to maintain this program, the Board of Education shall:
| A. | approve the content and organization of all vocational courses of study. | ||
| B. | employ and supervise all vocational education staff. | ||
| C. | provide adequate facilities for the maintenance of the program. | ||
| D. | utilize such qualifying private resources as may be necessary and appropriate to effectuate the purposes of this policy. | ||
| E. | establish the number of units of credit to be awarded toward graduation for vocational education courses of study. |
The Superintendent shall be responsible for developing procedures which shall ensure that:
| A. | all programs shall be operated in conformity with the current State Plan for vocational education. | ||
| B. | all teachers shall be properly certified for their specific teaching assignments. | ||
| C. | all approved courses of study are carried out. | ||
| D. | students participating in part-time vocational education employment programs are not exploited, illegally employed, or employed under conditions which fail to safeguard their health and interests. | ||
| E. | the development of vocational curricula is conjoined with a continuing assessment of the employment demands and resources of the community and the needs and interests of students. | ||
| F. | the operation of vocational education is in compliance with rules of the State Board of Education regarding vocational education. | ||
| G. | admission to vocational education programs is open to such regularly enrolled students as are qualified by their interest, motivation and potential for achieving occupational or other goals of the program. | ||
| H. | the vocational education of disadvantaged and disabled is supplemented by suitable programs of remedial instruction. |
The Superintendent shall seek and utilize all available State and Federal and private sources of revenue for the financial support of vocational education in this District.
All students participating in vocational education programs supervised by this Board and supervised by another agency are considered to be regularly enrolled in the schools of this District, subject to the policies and rules of this Board, including rules regarding attendance for those periods when they are not assigned to outside work projects, or other classes.
The Board directs that any efforts to recruit students to participate in a particular vocational program must include literature and comparable recruitment efforts for disabled students in a format and context in which they can communicate.
The vocational education program may also include a work-study program involving the employment of qualified students.
The work-study programs are available to students without regard for race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. The Superintendent is to ensure that application forms for work-study programs contain a notice of nondiscrimination and that each employer associated with a work-study program has provided an assurance of nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, and disability prior to the time the students are selected and/or assigned.
