1230 - SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

In the performance of his/her duties, the Local Superintendent is responsible to the Board of Education.

The Superintendent shall assume responsibility for the development of the school in accordance with sound principles of organization, administration, supervision, instruction, plant management, and business administration.

Specific Duties

The Superintendent shall:

 A.serve as the executive officer of the Board of Education and shall be charged with the responsibility for implementing the policies of the Board.

 B.attend all Board meetings and make such recommendations to the Board as seem necessary for the continuous improvement of the school.

 C.administer the school in conformity with the adopted policies of the Board, the rules and regulations of the State Department of Education, and the laws of the State of Ohio.

 D.develop administrative principles and procedures for implementing school policies, together with such information as is necessary for the appraisal of the educational program, and present the proposed policies to the Board for deliberation.

 E.prepare the budget with the aid of the staff, the Treasurer of the Board, and submit the same to the Board.

 F.prepare for the Board at the March meeting an annual report of the condition of the school in which s/he shall recommend such measures for the improvement of the school.

 G.recommend to the Board for approval the several courses of study and curricula to be offered in the Leipsic School.

 H.recommend for adoption all textbooks and supplementary instructional materials.

 I.administer the rules and regulations of the Board in regards to the utilization of Leipsic School facilities by Leipsic community organizations.

 J.administer the student transportation system of the School District in such a manner as to provide for its safe, efficient operation and to administer matters relating to the transportation personnel.

 K.administer the efficient operation of the lunch-room department and to administer matters relating to the lunchroom personnel.

 L.administer the maintenance program and custodial care of all Board owned properties and to administer matters relating to the building and grounds personnel.

 M.be responsible for the educational planning of new construction and building improvements and act as liaison between the Board and the architect in carrying through to a successful conclusion said construction of improvements.

 N.supervise and conduct a uniform purchasing program of all educational supplies and equipment and to administer the inventory program.

 O.prepare specifications and secure bids for the purchase of school furniture and equipment.

 P.issue such publications in cooperation with those directly concerned as are deemed necessary for the effective administration of the Leipsic School.

 Q.outline procedures which will provide information to interpret the school to the citizens of the Leipsic School District.

 R.serve directly in the areas of general administration and staff personnel and have charge in the administration and supervision of the school system.

 S.be the professional leader of the Board and of the teaching staff.

 T.appoint principals and teachers as confirmed by the Board.

 U.assign and supervise certificated personnel through the building principals.

 V.report to the Board on the success of the certificated personnel.

 W.recommend dismissals when necessary.

 X.serves as chief negotiator for the Board and conducts all negotiation sessions.

 Y.perform such other duties as designated by the Board.
