2430.01 - DISTRICT-APPROVED INTERSCHOLASTIC EXTRA-CURRICULAR CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES; STANDARDS OF ELIGIBILITY
The Board of Education recognizes the values associated with and gained as a result of participation in interscholastic extra-curricular activities sponsored by the School District.
The Board further recognizes the incentives which participation in interscholastic extra-curricular activities provides to students to achieve success in the classroom.
For the purposes of this policy interscholastic extra-curricular activity means a student activity program that a school or the District sponsors or participates in and that includes participants for more than one (1) school or district. Interscholastic extra-curricular activity does not include any activity included in the District's graded course of study except for interscholastic athletics used for physical education credit.
In order to be eligible to participate in any interscholastic extra-curricular activities the Board has established the following requirements for students in grades 7-12:
| A. | Students Enrolled in Grade 9-12 |
| 1. | In the immediately preceding grading period, a student must receive a passing grade in a minimum of four (4) one (1) credit courses or the equivalent, which count toward graduation and those grades must, when combined, be a total grade point average of at least 1.0 on a four point (4.0) scale. | |||
| 2. | A student enrolled in the first grading period after advancement from the eighth grade must have passed seventy-five percent (75%) of those subjects carried the previous grading period in which the student was enrolled and those grades must, when combined, be a total grade point average of at least 1.0 on a four point (4.0) scale. | |||
| 3. | Any student who's grade point average is above 1.0 but below 1.5 on a four point (4.0) scale must attend a school-sponsored study table during the season, or time, of participation in order to remain eligible for participation. |

| D. | All other eligibility requirements of this Board and, in the case of interscholastic athletics, the Ohio High School Athletic Association, must be met in addition to those declared in this policy. | ||
| E. | For the purpose of this policy: |
| 1. | "Preceding grading period" shall mean the first grading period for the current school year and, thereafter, the grading period immediately preceding the period of participation. | |||
| 2. | Student eligibility or ineligibility is determined each grading period of the school year and is in effect until the fifth school day of the next grading period, at which time the grades from the immediately preceding grading period become effective. Eligibility or ineligibility for the first grading period of the school year commences with the start of the interscholastic extra-curricular activities program. | |||
| 3. | Summer school grades earned may not be used to substitute for failing grades from the preceding grading period of the regular school year. |
