1230 - SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The Superintendent of Schools is the executive officer of the Board of Education which has the same powers, duties, and authority as is granted by law to a city school district, and shall be subject to all the provisions of law that apply to a city school district.
The Superintendent has final responsibility via his/her delegated authority for planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all phases of the District operation.
Specific Duties
| A. | Keeps the Board informed of school operation by preparing monthly Board agendas, providing oral and written communication, scheduling management team committee meetings, and requesting special Board meetings that become necessary to keep the Board properly informed. | ||
| B. | Serves as the chief executive officer of the Board and in this capacity: |
| 1. | prepares and sends out in advance an agenda for each regular Board meeting. | |||
| 2. | provides background information to assist the Board members in decision making. | |||
| 3. | assists the Board in the development of Board policy. | |||
| 4. | attends Board meetings to make recommendations which are vital for the continuous improvement of the educational program. | |||
| 5. | recommends educational materials, supplies, and equipment to be approved by the Board. |
| C. | Coordinates purchasing for the District in conformity with adopted policies of the Board, statutory provisions, and the rules and regulations of the State Department of Education. | ||
| D. | Has the overall responsibility for the general administration and supervision of all phases of the District except such duties as are required of the Treasurer by law. | ||
| E. | Delegates responsibility for the operation of the various administrative units but is responsible to the Board for the results produced. | ||
| F. | Recommends for employment all licensed and classified personnel. | ||
| G. | Recommends employees for promotion, demotion, transfer, or dismissal in accordance with State law. | ||
| H. | Administers the District's program in conformity with adopted policies and procedures of the Board, the provisions of the statutes, and the rules and regulations of the State Department of Education. | ||
| I. | Administers a continuous evaluation program of all personnel. | ||
| J. | Conducts a program of public information which includes communications with participating local districts and cooperating agencies. | ||
| K. | Coordinates with the Treasurer the preparation of the budget and the appropriations resolution. | ||
| L. | Engages in research activities pertinent to short term and long range planning for the operation of the District. | ||
| M. | Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Board. |
