2451 - ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL PLACEMENT

It is recognized that some students may be "at-risk" of not completing their education. Indicators of risk may include: teen pregnancy, personal/family crisis, substance abuse, hospital discharge, underachievement, chronic truancy and/or a history of behavior problems.

Procedure for Alternative Program Placement

 A.Whenever the principal determines that a student may benefit from an alternative school placement, a referral should be sent to the Director of the Alternative School. The student and his/her parents should be informed, in writing, of this option, and an attempt shall be made to discuss this recommendation by telephone or in person.

 B.The Director will screen the recommendation and application, and set up an intake meeting with the student and parents.

 C.The Director will forward his/her recommendation to the principal for approval.

 D.The parent(s) and principal will be notified in writing of placement decisions and scheduled enrollment date.

 E.Transportation to and from the alternative school will be provided by the parent or the student.
