2521.01 - INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA CENTER
The School Board shall provide for facilities, services, and equipment so organized and managed as to contribute to the total educational program.
Instructional Media Center Materials Selection
Instructional media center materials shall be selected in accordance with the following general statement:
| A. | Materials shall be selected for values of interest and enlightenment of the student. | |
| B. | Materials shall not be excluded because of the race, nationality, or religious views of the author or producer. | |
| C. | There shall be the fullest possible provision for materials presenting all points of view on local, National, and international problems and the selection of materials of sound factual authority shall be encouraged. | |
| D. | Material selected shall be appropriate to the age and maturity of the user. | |
| E. | Material selection will be assisted by reading and examination of the materials when possible and/or checking of standard evaluation aids. In addition careful consideration shall be given to: educational significance; need and value to the collection; reputation and significance of the author or producer; clarity, adequacy and scope of presentation; validity, accuracy, objectivity, up-to-dateness, and appropriateness of the presentation; high degree of comprehensibility and user appeal; high artistic quality and literary style; and value commensurate with cost and/or need. | |
| F. | Materials selected shall reflect both the educational program needs and the personal interest of students. | |
| G. | Gift materials will be accepted from students, faculty, and community with the understanding that any item which does not meet the criteria presented in these general statements will be respectfully declined. |
Instructional Media Center Equipment
The Board recognizes that equipment of various kinds is necessary to take full advantage of instructional materials available. To that end, the Board shall allot funds to purchase, repair, and replace equipment in instructional media centers according to need and within available funds.
Instructional Media Center Resources for Staff
The Board encourages the acquisition of necessary professional resources for staff fuse in the operation of the educational programs.
