2370.02 - VIRTUAL EDUCATION

The School Board wishes to promote the enhancement of the instructional and curricular program of the schools through virtual education. The Board will encourage members of the school staff to design courses and encourage students to enroll in such courses.

Virtual courses provide opportunities for students to meet their educational needs through online work. Students may enroll in individual courses to eliminate deficiencies on high school transcripts (credit recovery), to earn additional credits toward graduation, and/or to gain enrichment.

In order for a student to enroll in and receive credit for completing a virtual course, the student:

 A.must have prior approval.

B.needs to be self-motivated, computer literate, a successful time manager, and a committed worker.

C.cannot enroll in more than two (2) virtual courses in the summer or one (1) course during a regular semester unless application is made and prior approval is granted by the principal or his/her designee. (exceptions can be made for a medically involved homebound student or a special education student)

D.is justifiably unable to enroll in a course that is offered by JCSC.

E.must complete a final examination, administered by an approved proctor or have video streaming capability for online assessment. A student must pass the final examination in order to receive credit for the course.

Jennings County School Corporation will accept virtual course credits from accredited institutions. Students who wish to transfer credits from non-accredited institutions will need to be evaluated in order for credits to be issued and for the student to be placed in appropriate levels of coursework.
