2431.03 - PART-TIME STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Part-time students at the high and middle school levels (grades 7-12) who are enrolled in at least one (1) class are eligible for participation in interscholastic activities under certain conditions, including those specified by the Board of Education on interscholastic activities.

 A.Participants must be enrolled for at least one (1) class in grades 7-12 and the parents will provide James A. Garfield Schools with their home school plan.

 B.Participants meet the eligibility requirements for participating in athletic programs under the regulations of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).

 C.Participants meet all conditions of Board policy, the athletic conference of high school membership, the James A. Garfield Athletic Code of Conduct and any other sanctioning organizations under which the local school district participates.

 D.In order to participate, a high or middle school student must maintain passing grades in subjects that earn four (4) credits per year. Students will maintain the eligibility code as prescribed by the James A. Garfield Schools.

 E.At least one (1) course must be taken in residence at the James A. Garfield Schools throughout the school year. Courses offered at Maplewood J.V.S. or other secondary schools approved by James A. Garfield are acceptable.

 F.It is the responsibility of the student to submit information indicating evidence of academic eligibility to the high or middle school athletic director by the deadline date. If it is not received by that time, the student will be considered ineligible until the next eligibility period.

 G.In order to participate, a part-time student must abide by all other rules and regulations established by the school, the athletic department, the District and the coach or advisor of the activity in which the student is participating.

 H.The School District will provide only routine transportation on regularly scheduled routes; no special transportation.

 I.To follow all the rules and regulations of the School District, both the student and the parent will sign the Athletic Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.

 J.The James A. Garfield Schools will only provide services in school for enrollment only - no in home services will be provided by the School District.
