4415 - SEVERANCE PAY
In accordance with statute, all classified employees who present evidence of retirement from active service with the Board of Education shall be granted severance pay for their accrued but unused sick leave days. This policy specifies the manner for so doing.
All employees shall be eligible for severance pay based upon .3182 of accumulated sick leave up to a maximum of seventy (70) days.
An employee must submit a written letter of resignation, plus notice of retirement, from the profession and it must be received by Hopewell-Loudon Local Schools from the State Employees Retirement System prior to payment of severance pay.
The rate of payment shall be at the per diem rate the retiring employee is receiving at the time the retirement is effective.
The employee has 60 calendar days after tenuring resignation to inform the Treasurer's office of their plan for requesting severance pay, if eligible. Failure to request severance during this time results in forfeiture of payment.
