2340.01 - SENIOR TRIP

 A.The senior trip is to be a field trip where the class can spend time with their classmates. The agenda will include at least one (1) educational activity and sixty percent (60%) of the class must attend.

 B.Trips will be limited to the continental United States and limited to 500 miles one-way in distance from the school. Trips may be scheduled for anytime during the school year as long as they meet all the criteria in this policy.

 C.Seniors must present a destination and estimate of the cost of the trip, after consultation with a travel agent to the Board of Education five (5) months prior to the date of the senior trip. The trip must have educational merit and not cost so much that fund-raising efforts will interfere with school activities.

 D.A detailed itinerary must be presented to the Board three (3) months prior to the date of the trip. All funds for the trip must be turned in by the students no later than thirty (30) days after approval from the Board of Education.

 E.The trip must be coordinated so that it will not interfere with school activities.

 F.A total of one (1) school day may be used for the trip.

 G.Parents or legal guardians of a senior and chaperones shall attend a mandatory meeting about the trip.

 H.School rules must be followed.

 I.Costs charges for vandalism will be born by the individual(s) responsible or the class as a whole if responsibility cannot be determined.

 J.There must be no less than one (1) chaperone per seven (7) students of the same gender. A minimum of two (2) staff members will be required as chaperones. One (1) of the staff members will be the trip leader.

 K.Senior trip is limited to seniors and Board approved chaperones. Chaperones will not be allowed to take family members other than spouse on the trip.

 L.No student will be allowed to join the trip once the bus has left the school and all students must return from the trip at the same time.

 M.No student is allowed to attend who has had one (1) offense for illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs during his/her senior year.

 N.The contract with the travel agency should include a provision for adequate accidental death and dismemberment insurance for all persons included in the trip.

 O.No refunds after money deadline as outlined in "D" above.
