8330.02 - STUDENT BIOMETRIC INFORMATION
The School District uses biometric information, which is any information that is collected through an identification process for individuals based on their unique behavioral or physiological characteristics, including fingerprint, hand geometry, voice, or facial recognition or iris or retinal scans, for its meal and library programs. It is used solely for identification and for fraud prevention.
The District shall obtain written permission from the person who has legal custody of the student or the student, if s/he has reached the age of eighteen (18) to take and store the biometric information prior to using it. The District shall cease using a student’s biometric information in any of the following circumstances:
| A. | the student’s graduation or withdrawal from the District; or | ||
| B. | upon receipt of a written request to discontinue use of such information by the person having legal custody of the student or the student, if s/he has reached the age of eighteen (18). |
Within thirty (30) days of the discontinued use of the student’s biometric information, it shall be destroyed.
The District will not sell, lease or otherwise disclose biometric information to another person or entity unless the person who has legal custody of the student or the student, if s/he has reached the age of eighteen (18), consents to the disclosure or unless the disclosure is required by court order.
All biometric information shall be kept confidential and restricted access shall be provided only to those staff members with a need to review the information. Any required transmissions of biometric information shall be done to protect its confidentiality.
No student will be prevented from participating in the District’s meal program and any other program due to the failure to receive written consent to use the biometric information from either the student or his/her guardian.
