The Board of Education shall, if legislatively required, provide the opportunity to attend a summer program for students of third grade that do not have basic literacy or mathematic skills per District standards approved by the State Superintendent of Instruction or per standards published by the State Superintendent of Instruction. Qualification for this opportunity shall be determined in accordance with District assessment criteria contained in Policy 2623 as well as cumulative evidence, including daily school work, assessments, and teacher observations. Students who qualify under Policy 2623 criteria will not be charged tuition. Generally transportation will not be provided to summer school students.

This special summer school instruction shall be designed to provide opportunities for students to improve basic literacy and mathematic skills.

With regard to transportation, the Board accepts responsibility for disabled and disadvantaged students if I.E.P. Team so determines.
