3411 - MILITARY SERVICE CREDIT

It is the School Board’s intent that all military service, up to four (4) years, be credited to individuals hired to teach in Greater Clark on the teacher’s salary schedule as set out below:

 

A.

Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, any teacher who completed an approved bachelor’s degree in education/teaching before, during or after induction into active duty military service was entitled to a salary credit for such service.

     
 

B.

This policy went into effect for individuals newly hired as of the 2014-2015 school year and thereafter. No retroactive credit was or will be applied to certified employees hired before 2014-2015.

     
 

C.

Proper documentation regarding active duty military service is required for credit under the terms of this policy, with a maximum credit of four (4) years.

The Board of School Trustees recognizes that the requirements for retirement benefits through the Indiana State Teacher Retirement Fund (TRF) may be different from the terms of this policy.

This policy has no effect on the applicability of military service credit for TRF eligibility or benefits.
