2521 - SELECTION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

The Board of Education shall provide instructional materials and equipment, within budgetary constraints, to implement the District's educational goals and objectives and to meet students needs. The primary objective of such instructional materials and equipment shall be to enrich, support, and implement the educational program of the school.

The Superintendent shall develop administrative guidelines for the selection and maintenance of all educational materials and instructional equipment including appropriate selection criteria.

A student shall be held responsible for the cost of replacing any materials or properties which are lost or damaged through their negligence.

Cost of materials may be charged for materials used in those activities beyond the basic curriculum in which a student elects to participate, particularly in shop activities where the product becomes the property of the student.

Selection Criteria for Equipment

The evaluation and selection criteria for instructional equipment may include:

 A.relevance to the school curriculum;

B. needs of individual students.

Selection Criteria for Classroom Materials Including Reading Materials & Films

Classroom showing of movies on tape require completion of Form 2521. The criteria for the selection of educational classroom materials may include, but not be limited to one (1) or more of the following:

 A.Materials shall be suited to the varied interests, abilities, reading levels, and maturation levels of the students to be served.

 B.Wherever possible, materials shall represent the many religious, ethnic and cultural groups and their contribution to American heritage.

 C.Materials shall be factually accurate and of genuine literary or artistic value.

 D.Materials shall relate to, support, and enrich the courses of study adopted by the Board.

All films, tapes, videos, etc. shown shall be approved by your building principal on Form 2521. They are not to contain profanity or other behaviors that are against your building's behavior code. If the objectionable material can be edited out, approval may be granted. These materials must be appropriate for student age and be aligned with curriculum goals and objectives for the subject being taught. No R or above rated materials will even be considered. Showing materials that are inappropriate will subject that staff member to disciplinary action.
