4122.01 - DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE

It is the policy of the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation to maintain a drug-free workplace. To that end, the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation Board of School Trustees shall not permit the manufacture, possession, use, distribution, or dispensing of any controlled substance by any employee of the corporation at any time while on corporation property or at any school corporation sponsored activity. Violation of this policy will result in discipline up to and including termination.

 A.The manufacture, distribution, possession, use or dispensing of any controlled substance (as set forth in Schedules I through V of Section 202 of the Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 812) by any employee will result in dismissal from employment and referral for prosecution.

 B.An employee having an illness or other problem relating to the use of alcohol or other drugs will receive the same careful consideration and offer of assistance that is presently extended to employees having any other illness.

 C.The responsibility to correct unsatisfactory job performance or behavior resulting from a suspected health problem rests with the employee. Failure to do so, for whatever reason, will result in appropriate corrective or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

 D.No employee will have his/her job security or promotion opportunities jeopardized by his/her request for counseling or referral assistance.

 E.Employees who suspect that they may have an alcohol or other drug abuse problem are encouraged to seek counseling and/or information regarding treatment. Employees are encouraged to contact the following available community resources:

  1.Alcoholics Anonymous

  2.Deaconess Hospital/Alcohol and Drug Recovery

  3.St. Mary's Chemical Dependence Unit

  4.Deaconess Cross Pointe

  5.Southwestern Indiana Mental Health Center - Stepping Stone

  6.Lampion Center

  7.Or other EVSC approved treatment programs

Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation will conduct a biennial review of its drug prevention programs to determine their effectiveness and to make any needed changes.

Employees must notify, in writing, the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation's Office of Human Resources of any arrest and/or conviction for violation of a criminal drug or alcohol statute no later than five (5) calendar days after such arrest and/or conviction. Employee cooperation and compliance with this policy is a condition of continued employment with the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation and the failure to comply with the policy will result in disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
