7430 - SAFETY STANDARDS

The Board of Education believes that the employees and students of this District, as well as visitors, are entitled to function in an environment as free from hazards as can reasonably be provided, and recognizes that according to existing law concerning health and safety standards certain government agencies have a responsibility to carry out inspections of District premises. The Board pledges full cooperation in all matters pertaining to such inspections.

Safety Program

   
 

The Board shall provide, in accordance with law, school premises as free from known dangers and hazards to safety, health, and life as is reasonably practical.

   
 

The Superintendent shall be responsible for the maintenance of standards in all facilities to prevent accidents and to minimize their consequences. S/He shall designate an employee who shall conduct periodic audits of health and safety conditions in the facilities of the District within the Federal OSHA standards adopted by the State, and report any violations thereof to the Superintendent, who shall initiate appropriate action to correct any verified violation. The action taken by the Superintendent on any reported violation shall be made a matter of record, including his/her determination and explanation of the violation.

   
 

The Superintendent shall ascertain that employees of this District are aware of their rights to a hazard-free environment, that they are properly trained in safety methods, that protective devices and equipment are available to meet safety standards, that proper rules are in effect and records are maintained to meet the requirements of the law.

   
 

The results of any inspection made by an agency from outside of the District shall be received by the Superintendent who shall report them to the Board at the next meeting held after their receipt.
