5230 - LATE ARRIVAL AND EARLY DISMISSAL

The Board of Education believes that it is necessary for a student to be in attendance throughout the school day in order to benefit fully from the educational program of the District, but recognizes that compelling circumstances may require that a student be late to school or dismissed before the end of the school day.

As agent responsible for the education of the children of this District the Board requires that the school be notified in advance of any absence or early dismissal from classes, by written request of the student's parent stating the reason(s) for the requested absence, tardiness or early dismissal. Whether or not the reason(s) are justifiable shall be determined by the principal.

If one (1) parent has been awarded custody of the student by the courts, the parent of custody shall provide the school with a copy of the custody order and inform the school in writing of any limitations in the rights of the non-custodial parent. Absent such notice, the school shall presume that the student may be released into the care of either parent.

No minor student shall be released to anyone except a parent presumed to have custody of that student, unless such parent's signed statement authorizing the student's release to another person and the signature of the person taking custody of the student are on file in the school building.

No student who has a medical or physical disability which may be or may imminently become incapacitating shall be released without a person to accompany him/her, regardless of any existing prior written approval.
