0135 - BOARD POLICY

The Board of Education has a responsibility to create and to maintain, for the benefit of students, parents, employees and other members of the community, a comprehensive set of policies compatible with local, State, and Federal statutes. It is important that adopted policies reflect the unique needs, desires, problems and character of this community.

0135.1

Policy Manual

Board policies shall be assembled in a Policy Manual, codified for easy reference and available to review by any interested individual. Copies of the Board's Policy Manual shall be provided:

A.

to each Board member,

B.

to the Superintendent and each building principal, and

C.

Any one of the above copies may be referenced by an interested citizen of the District.

0135.2

Policy Review Committee

In support of its commitment to create and, especially, to maintain a Policy Manual, the Board shall, at its annual meeting in July, appoint a standing, three-member Policy Review Committee of Board members charged with the responsibility to review proposed adoption, repeal or revision of policy and to recommend specific action to the Board.

The committee shall be authorized to schedule meetings as needed to a limit of twelve (12) per year. Compensation shall be granted to members attending any such scheduled meeting.

At the first regular Board meeting subsequent to the committee reaching conclusion that adoption or revision of policies is appropriate, a member of the committee shall introduce a Resolution for Adoption. This resolution or motion shall automatically be tabled until the next Board meeting. Similarly, a motion to repeal an existing policy statement shall be introduced at one meeting but not acted upon until a subsequent Board meeting.
