4120.05 - MONITOR SUBSTITUTES

This policy shall apply to persons individually employed by districts called monitors and certified as one (1) year educational aides.

Eligibility of Monitors

Monitors shall be recommended for training by building principals and shall be chosen from building volunteers. Persons recommended shall have earned a high school diploma or equivalent.

Training of Monitors

All recommended volunteers shall enroll in and successfully complete a two (2) day training facilitated by trained MVESC personnel. Trainees shall schedule one (1) day of classroom job shadowing through the recommending building principal and participate in District training.

Certification of Monitors

All potential monitors shall be fingerprinted unless previous fingerprinting is current. All applicants shall also be tested for tuberculosis where applicable. All applicants shall apply for certification as one (1) year educational aides and shall reapply on a yearly basis pending satisfactory classroom performance.

The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center shall process applications and fingerprinting.

Monitor Supervision

Monitors shall be assigned a certified supervisor for the day. The certified supervisor shall periodically observe the classroom environment and offer advice or help where needed.

Monitors shall be given information on building procedures to follow in case of emergencies including how to contact the building office. Building principals shall periodically observe the monitor's classroom.

Monitor Duties

Monitors shall carry on the duties and lesson plans of the absent teacher as closely as possible while maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning.
