3242 - PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LICENSURE

The Board of Education directs the Superintendent to establish a Professional Development Committee that is in compliance with State law.

The Committee may be a District committee or one that is part of a consortium of school districts.

If a District committee is established, it shall consist of no more than seven (7) members, one of whom shall be the assistant superintendent. The majority must be teachers.

The Superintendent or his/her designee and committee shall be responsible for establishing the guidelines by which the committee is to function. Among these guidelines should be:

 A.a set of bylaws governing when the Committee will meet and where, how the committee will select and replace members, the manner in which voting will occur, and the procedure the Committee will use to hear appeals of its decisions;

 B.the criteria that will be used to determine whether or not a professional development plan will be approved.

All Professional Development Committee meetings are subject to the Sunshine Law.

If the District will be part of a Professional Development Committee operated by a consortium, the Consortium shall negotiate with individual districts the number of members of the District staff who shall be members of the committee and the compensation arrangements for those members. The Superintendent, in concert with other superintendents in the consortium, shall determine which administrators from each District will serve on the committee.

The Superintendent or designee shall report periodically to the Board on the operation of this important committee and on the progress staff members are making in fulfilling their professional development plans.
