Purpose:
A. | promote two-way communications
B. | assist with improving performance
C. | identify strengths and weaknesses
D. | establish goals for the organization

Some Guideposts:
A. | The Superintendent should know the standards against which s/he will be evaluated. The job description of the Superintendent shall be directly related to the evaluation instrument with the Superintendent responsible for recommending compatibility.
B. | Evaluation should be a scheduled part of a study or executive session with the Board present.
C. | The evaluation should be a composite of the Board opinion with the Board reviewing this with the Superintendent.
D. | The evaluation should include accomplishments and constructive suggestions.
E. | Both parties should prepare for the evaluation - the Superintendent by conducting a rigorous self examination, and the Board by examining various sources of information. The Board should not limit itself to items in the job description.
F. | Each judgement should be supported by as much rationale and objective evidence as possible. |
*It is suggested that a new member of the Board not participate in the formal evaluation of the Superintendent for the first six (6) months of his/her elected or appointed term.
