The School Board recognizes a course of independent study for a properly qualified student may help that student develop judgment and self-reliance; draw upon community resources as well as school resources for his/her educational program; include a greater variety of learning experiences within educational programs; identify and explore an area of particular interest; and set personal learning goals and work with appropriate staff toward achieving them.
