4430 - LEAVES OF ABSENCE

All support staff, not otherwise covered by the terms of a negotiated, collectively-bargained agreement, shall be entitled to leave benefits as determined by the Board.

Any employee granted a leave of absence shall be considered to have terminated all work with the District until completion of the leave. Exceptions may be made by the Superintendent in cases where the best interests of the District might be served.

The Board authorizes the Superintendent or the Department Director, with approval from the Superintendent, the ability to consider and approve, as deemed necessary, in the opinion of the Administration, up to two (2) days per school year of unpaid leave to an individual employee.

Roll Over of Personal Days into Sick Days

At the beginning of each contract year, an employee will be credited with two (2) or three (3) personal leave days, depending on the specific job classification. The personal leave day is provided for the purpose of conducting legitimate business, or fulfilling professional and/or family obligations which an employee may encounter and cannot fulfill outside the regular work day. An employee planning to use a personal day shall notify his/her supervisor at least one (1) day in advance of the day being used or as indicated in departmental policy or a negotiated agreement), except in cases of emergency. Unused personal leave shall be counted as accumulated sick leave up to a maximum permitted by job classification.

Vacation Day Usage

The anniversary date for the purpose of computing vacation time will be the first of July of each calendar year. New employees shall receive vacation time on a pro-rated basis with the anniversary date being July 1st.

Vacation may be accumulated for a period of eighteen (18) months from the anniversary date of July 1st. Vacation not used in that time period will be forfeit.

The Superintendent shall prepare appropriate administrative guidelines for this policy.
