5112.01 - ENROLLMENT OF STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES
New students enrolling in the Delaware City Schools directly from foreign countries not identified by the Ohio Department of Health as TB low risk countries must have a TB skin test prior to school enrollment. Students, who arrive from countries not identified as TB low risk foreign countries, who have been living in the United States for less than twelve (12) months, must show evidence of a tuberculosis skin test (given in the United States during the period following their arrival in the United States) prior to school enrollment. Students, who are United States citizens, who have lived in a foreign country, not identified as low risk, for over three (3) months, must show evidence of a tuberculosis skin test given since returning to the United States. If the tuberculosis test is positive, then a negative chest x-ray, obtained in the United States and read specifically for tuberculosis within the past twelve (12) months, is required.
| A. | If the skin test meets the criteria above and is negative, proceed with enrollment. | ||
| B. | If the skin test is positive and the x-ray read for TB is negative, proceed with enrollment. | ||
| C. | If the skin test is positive and the student is pregnant, the student is referred to their physician for evaluation and may be cleared until a chest x-ray can be done. | ||
| D. | If the skin test is positive and the chest x-ray is positive, inform the Delaware Health Department. The health department will work with the student's physician to determine appropriate therapy and date eligible to attend school. | ||
| E. | If the student is excluded from school due to any other tuberculosis related issue, the student is referred to the Delaware Health Department and the health department will work with the student's physician to determine appropriate therapy and enrollment/attendance eligibility. |
