8540 - SALE OF FOOD IN SCHOOLS
The Board of Education recognizes the value of a nutritious school lunch program and believes that competitive food sales during regularly scheduled lunch periods could have a detrimental effect on the nutritional balance of student meals.
The following guidelines shall govern the sale of food in the District schools:
| A. | The types of food sold in schools shall be determined as to their potential to contribute significantly to the daily nutritional needs of children and to enhance the School District's nutrition philosophy and nutrition education curriculum. | ||
| B. | The principal of each school shall develop a schedule when food items are available to students and in what locations to ensure that items available are of nutritional value and not to interfere with the nutrition of students during the school day. | ||
| C. | No vending machines for food or drinks shall be placed upon school property without the permission of the building principal. | ||
| D. | The principal shall approve the place for sale of food items within the school. | ||
| E. | The principal shall approve food items sold during the school day to ensure nutritional value. | ||
| F. | Food sold on school premises on school days shall be prior to and after the school's lunch periods and will require the approval of the principal. |
