5460.01 - EARLY GRADUATION

The Board of Education strongly believes that twelve (12) years of formal education provide the best foundation for the demands of adulthood. It further believes that every attempt should be made to encourage and make this possible. However, it also recognizes that in unusual and extenuating circumstances there exists a need for students to complete their schooling in eleven (11) years. Reasons that may be considered are:

A.early entrance to college, business school, trade, or technical school only if the student has completed all courses in their chosen field.

 B.economic distress and/or family needs.

If early completion is desired the following procedures must be followed:

A.The parents/guardians of the student must initiate the request through a meeting with a committee made up of the building principal, Dean of Students, and guidance counselor. This committee will seek input from the classroom teacher and school psychologist when appropriate.

B.If the committee is in agreement with the request it will make the recommendation to the Superintendent. A signed waiver from the parent(s) and student must accompany the recommendation.

C.If early completion is recommended any senior level credits must be taken after the completion of the eleventh (11th) grade through summer school, correspondence, tutoring, or any of the State recognized acceptable educational options.

D.In all cases final approval must be given by the Board.
