2130 - EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The District will:

A.work together with the community to provide sound, positive programs for educating children.

B.enable every learner to achieve continuous progress in his/her school experiences as well as provide opportunities to demonstrate initiative and creativity. A variety of course offerings, kindergarten through grade twelve (12), will be available to meet the full range of the learner's interests and needs, regardless of the learner's sex, race, or creed.

C.provide opportunities for the learner to progressively increase his/her appreciation of the humanities including art, music, drama, and literature.

D.provide opportunities for the learner to successfully encounter progressively more difficult decision-making and problem-solving situations.

E.provide education and training to help the learner live a satisfying and productive life and deal with the complexities of modern living, contributing to our society meaningfully and productively.

F.provide an environment conducive to encouraging the learner's sense of responsibility to the development of the individual's acceptance of consequences for his/her behavior, of the interaction between the majority and the minority in today's society, of the importance of proper respect for parent, peer, school, and civil authority, of the value of honesty, truth, and personal integrity in a free enterprise economic system.

G.provide instruction in, programs for, and counseling about family living so that a child may be aware of the value of and help to perpetuate the family unit.

H.be an integration of the academic and the "real" world experiences of the learner. It is through interaction with adults, other students, community institutions, and actual work situations that the learner makes a personal assimilation of academic data. The student will be encouraged to become involved in those institutions which are a part of his/her life and be free to explore the resources of the larger community as an integral part of his/her education.

I.provide a rich environment and support which will encourage each learner to develop his/her own uniqueness, talents, and capabilities to full potential and to provide opportunities and materials whereby s/he may, at his/her own learning rate, master intellectual, social, and vocational skills necessary to function effectively in our society.

J.help each learner to discover himself/herself as a person, to develop a positive self-image, to establish legitimate grounds for self-respect, and to find satisfactory answers to such universal questions as, "Who am I?", "Why am I here?", "Where am I going?", and "How can I contribute?"

K.encourage the classroom teacher to set the example for fairness, ethical behavior, enthusiasm, adherence to standards, and recognition of individual differences. The instructor will be placed where s/he can perform successfully and contribute to the overall instructional program. Encouragement will be given to the teacher to improve his/her talents and services to the community as well as the school.

L.encourage a free exchange of ideas predicated on the mutual respect and understanding between teacher and learner and between learner and learner - a respect based on the dignity and worth of each individual.

M.assist the student to learn how to learn. The learning situation will be characterized by the seeking, discovering, reorganizing, and testing of knowledge. Learning will be structured to give the learner opportunities to investigate the processes of analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and inference; s/he will learn to develop valid conclusions based on the collection of data.

N.offer the learner opportunities to make decisions and experience the consequences of his/her decisions.
