8500 - PROCEDURES FOR THE OPERATION OF THE NUTRITION SERVICE PROGRAMS

The documents listed below will be used by the Department of Nutrition Service Program staff to operate the Nutrition Service Programs in elementary, middle and high schools as prescribed in School Board Policy 8500.

Department of Nutrition Services Procedures Manual

The Department of Nutrition Services Procedures Manual contains detailed procedural guidance for the operation of the Breakfast, Lunch and After School Snack Programs. It also contains procedures for, ordering food and supplies, sanitation, safety, meal and cash accountability and employee training.

The Procedures Manual is available to the Nutrition Service Manager, the principal and any other staff member designated by the principal via the School District website under For Staff. Nutrition Services staff are expected to adhere to the procedures in the manual, which is updated annually.

The Department of Nutrition Service Employee Handbook

The Department of Nutrition Services Employee Handbook contains general information and guidelines for employees to follow, including job descriptions, information about employee benefits, dress code, standards of behavior, sanitation, safety and suggestions for work simplification.

All new employees are given a copy of the Employee Handbook at their "new hire meeting" when they are first employed. They are expected to read it and sign a receipt on the last page, documenting their receipt of the handbook. The signed receipt is placed in the employee's personnel file.

Department of Health Administrative Code

According to F.S. 381.0072, the Department of Nutrition Services must adhere to the rules of Chapter 64E-11 Food Hygiene of the Health Department Section in the Florida Administrative Code.

These rules prescribe minimum sanitary practices and other regulatory standards relating to food service establishments in Florida.
