9270 - PRIVATE OR TRIBAL SCHOOLING

The Board of Education encourages the enrollment of all school-age children resident in this District in public schools or in approved parochial or private schools so that they may enjoy the benefits of a well-planned educational program and the socialization possible in a group environment.

The Board shall allow students who are being educated at a private school or a tribal school to participate, if space is available, in any of the District's courses by enrolling in up to four (4) courses during each semester. The student must meet the criteria for admission to the high school established for private school or tribal school students.

In addition to the four (4) courses, the District will allow enrollment in other required and non-required subject areas.

Home-Based Private Education Students

The Board shall allow a student receiving Home-Based private education to attend up to four (4) courses per semester in the public school classroom provided that the student meets the minimum standards for enrollment in each course as established by the District. Such student may attend no more than 2 courses per semester, which shall include any courses being taken by the student in another public school district such that the aggregate number of courses taken in a public school district in any semester does not exceed two (2).

Students attending courses under this policy may be allowed to participate in noncurricular activities of the high school, providing they meet any eligibility criteria established for the activity.

The student may not participate in the District's WIAA-approved athletic programs.

The Board may allow any student who is being educated at a private school or tribal school to participate, if space is available, in any of the District's co-curricular, or extra-curricular activities.
