8515 - WELLNESS
Each school will establish a local School Wellness Committee that involves parents, students, community members and staff. The committee will develop and implement a wellness plan that promotes wellness at the school. This plan must follow the District policies and procedures.
| A. | Child Nutrition Programs will comply with Federal, State and local requirements and be accessible to all children. |
| 1. | Lunch and breakfast will be offered at all schools. | |||
| 2. | All foods and beverages made available for sale on school properties will adhere to food safety and security guidelines. | |||
| 3. | The school environment is safe, comfortable, pleasing and allows ample time and space for eating meals. | |||
| 4. | All foods and beverages made available on school properties (including vending, concessions, a la carte and student stores) during the school day will meet or exceed the District's nutritional standards. | |||
| 5. | Sequential and interdisciplinary nutrition education will be provided and promoted. |
| B. | Sequential and interdisciplinary prevention education targeting abuse of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs will be provided and promoted. | ||
| C. | No alcohol, illicit drug use or smoking on any Cincinnati Public Schools' property. | ||
| D. | Sequential and interdisciplinary wellness education targeting physical activities and healthy behaviors that are consistent with District health education course of study will be provided and promoted. | ||
| E. | Physical activities will embrace students of different cultures, body types and abilities in meaningful and nonjudgmental ways so as to promote positive life-long habits. |
| 1. | Physical activities will be offered daily for all students. | |||
| 2. | Staff is encouraged to model healthy behaviors and physical fitness. |
| F. | School activities that occur outside of the school or school day should encourage and support lifelong wellness practices, i.e., concessions and fundraisers. | ||
| G. | Schools will provide family and community education activities that promote healthy behaviors and physical fitness with the goal of reinforcing wellness practices established by the District's plan. | ||
| H. | The Superintendent will establish and implement an evaluation component for this policy. | ||
| I. | The District will develop and implement an employee wellness policy. |
