2530.01 - LIBRARY/RESOURCE MATERIALS
The Board of Education shall provide instructional materials, within budgetary constraints, to implement the District and school educational goals and objectives and to meet student needs.
Such materials shall include reference books, textbooks, instructional materials, library print and library nonprint materials.
The Superintendent shall be responsible for the selection and maintenance of all resource materials and shall develop selection procedures which appoint appropriate administrative and instructional staff to select resource materials, subject to the approval of the Superintendent.
Selection of Library/Resource Materials
| A. | Selectors: Materials are selected by qualified representative personnel consisting of teachers, librarians, and administrators through individual and committee study and recommendations. | ||
| B. | Materials are selected by examination of material, and from recommended and authorized bibliographies of lists of materials. | ||
| C. | Criteria: |
| 1. | Materials are essential and appropriate. | |||
| 2. | Materials are factually accurate. | |||
| 3. | Materials are contributing to literary appreciation or have esthetic value. | |||
| 4. | Materials are selected because of content or emphasis. | |||
| 5. | Authors are competent and qualified in the field. | |||
| 6. | Materials on controversial issues represent both sides of the issue in an objective way. | |||
| 7. | Materials should inspire high moral conduct and be free from the unnecessarily flagrant use of obscene language and indecent pictures. |
Re-Evaluation as the Result of Criticism
| A. | The criticism is to be addressed to the Superintendent in writing, and shall include: |

| 6. | reasons for objection | |||
| 7. | in what school and class the material was used | |||

| B. | Upon receipt of the information, the Superintendent shall, appoint a review committee. | ||
| C. | The Superintendent shall be a member of the committee. | ||
| D. | The committee's decision shall be reported to the Board in writing at the next regular meeting. | ||
| E. | The Board shall review the case and advise the complainant in writing of its decision within ten (10) days following the next Board meeting. |
