9950 - TELEVISION STATION
The Board recognizes that television has the potential to enrich the educational experience for learners of all ages because of its status as the most popular and widely accessible form of communication currently available in modern society.
Pursuant to Section 611 of the Communications Act, local franchising authorities may require cable TV operators to set aside channels for public, education, or government use. Section 30-29 of the Brevard County Municipal Code specifies that a cable television franchisee provide an educational access channel to be managed, scheduled, and programmed exclusively by the Board.
Therefore, the Board is exercising its option under Brevard County Municipal Code to operate an educational access television channel for the purpose of educating children and adults and keeping citizens informed on matters of importance regarding District policies, finances, programs, personnel, and operations.
The television station is the responsibility of the Office of District Communications. In accordance with the District's Public Information Program Policy 9120, the Superintendent shall direct the operation of a television station that will broadcast educational programming designed to enhance student academic achievement and informational programming designed to acquaint the community with the accomplishment and needs of the schools.
