2451 - ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PLANS/PROGRAMS
The Board recognizes that the regular school program may not be appropriate for all students and that certain students may need special programs to help them overcome attendance, academic, and/or behavioral problems.
The Board authorizes the Superintendent to provide alternative education programs for students who, in the opinion of the Superintendent, will benefit from this educational option. Participation in an alternative program does not exempt the student from adherence to school attendance rules or the Code of Conduct.
The Superintendent shall develop a plan for the alternative program and submit it to the Board for approval. The plan is to include but not necessarily be limited to:
| A. | the criteria for admission to the program; | ||
| B. | the criteria and procedures that will be used to transfer a student from the alternative program back to his/her regular school; | ||
| C. | a plan for evaluating the effectiveness of the alternative program and for sharing the results of the evaluation with the community. | ||
| D. | any additional time of attendance beyond the minimum school day; | ||
| E. | any restrictions on participation in co-curricular or extra-curricular activities; | ||
| F. | any additions to the Code of Conduct. |
The Superintendent shall develop and update as needed administrative procedures to implement this policy.
