2410 - SPECIAL SERVICES
Health Services
The Board shall cooperate with the Brevard County Health Department in providing professional medical supervision in all school health matters as required by the School Health Services Act F.S. 381.0056. The District and the Brevard County Health Department shall jointly develop a school health services plan approved by the Board Chairman, the Superintendent and the Director of the Brevard County Health Department.
The District, in conjunction with the Brevard County Health Department, shall develop and update, as needed, administrative procedures to implement this policy. These procedures will be incorporated in the Student Services Procedures Manual and shall include but not necessarily be limited to:
| A. | the periodic review of student health records for compliance with State statutes; | ||
| B. | health inservice to schools and resource persons for individual group-related health issues; | ||
| C. | school entry health examinations; | ||
| D. | compulsory immunization for school entry; | ||
| E. | exemptions from physical examination and/or immunizations; | ||
| F. | emergency flip charts for various health procedures; | ||
| G. | emergency health care procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) poster; | ||
| H. | the administration of medication to students; | ||
| I. | parent request for the administration of medication to students; | ||
| J. | the care of asthmatic students; | ||
| K. | the control of head lice (pediculosis capitis); | ||
| L. | emergency injections for insect stings; | ||
| M. | notification of a student’s chronic health condition; | ||
| N. | vision and hearing screening; | ||
| O. | students and employees with HIV or aids; | ||
| P. | confidentiality of students or employees infected with aids; | ||
| Q. | contaminated materials protection and disposal. |
Mental Health Services
Mental health counseling services, case management services, and human and social services may be provided to students at a school site under mutual agreements with community-based public or private agencies. Each service provided shall be on a case-by-case basis with prior written approval of the student’s parent or guardian. If a parent has requested a private individual or agency to perform these services, a Facilities Use Form must be completed, a Certificate of Insurance must be submitted to Risk Management, and use of facilities shall be charged on an hourly basis.
The Superintendent shall work to assist schools in providing information to children and families by providing a directory of referral sources for professional mental health services for children and families in need of such services. The following information should be listed in the directory:

| D. | a copy of the District’s release letter for obtaining assistance | ||
