1040 - EVALUATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

The Superintendent’s evaluation will serve several purposes. Most importantly, it will link Superintendent assessment to the District’s strategic plan, First In Florida. Indeed, the Superintendent’s evaluation goals must not conflict with the District’s strategic plan, the Superintendent’s job description, the Board’s policies detailing the division of responsibility between the Board and Superintendent, or the Board established priorities. The Board will also evaluate its Superintendent to: facilitate communication and understanding between the Board and Superintendent, commend the Superintendent for accomplishments and point out weaknesses, suggest ways for the Superintendent to improve, facilitate decisions made regarding the Superintendent’s employment and implement the performance evaluation clause in the Superintendent’s contract.

The Superintendent will be evaluated by the performance-appraisal system. This system requires the Board and Superintendent to cooperatively establish priorities and performance criteria at the beginning of the annual evaluation cycle. The goals and criteria will be as specific and measurable as is practical. They will vary from year to year, depending on the District’s needs. The evaluation will consistently emphasize the degree of how successfully the Superintendent performed in meeting the pre-established goals and criteria and student performance. Minor responsibilities and personal characteristics will also be evaluated. The evaluation will appear in an essay format, along with a performance scale related to the Superintendent’s job description.
