8440 - INJURIES, ILLNESSES, AND FIRST AID

It is recognized that injuries and illnesses occur during regular school hours and during school sponsored extracurricular activities. It is the responsibility of the staff to notify a building administrator and a parent or designated person when a significant injury or illness occurs.

First aid measures are to be initiated by the school nurse, teacher, administrator, or the individual in charge in case of an emergency until the parents can take over. However, this service is limited to comfort and protection of the injured until the parents take over or medical evaluation and recommendation are secured. The parents are to be notified as soon as possible.

If it is impossible to contact the parents or designated person of the injured person, the judgment for calling emergency medical service and/or the family physician shall be made by the individual in charge.
