7540 - TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Rationale

The School District will provide students with the means for accessing the international information highway. This experience with telecommunications will better prepare students to meet future demands upon them in performing tasks such as:

 

Assisting in the collaboration and exchange of information, facilitating diversity and personal growth in technology, enhancing information gathering and communication skills.

Access to telecommunications will also provide District personnel with opportunities for professional development.

Purpose

Access to telecommunications is to be provided to support learning, teaching, and research.

General Guidelines

Use of telecommunications is to be implemented in developmentally appropriate activities determined within each individual school. These activities are to be designed to support achievement of curricular objectives and the District mission statement.

All telecommunications use will be carried out in a responsible, legal, and ethical manner consistent with acceptable use policies formulated by the entity providing telecommunications access, the School District, and individual schools within the District.

Telecommunications access provided by the School District will not be used for personal profit or commercial purposes.

Equitable access to telecommunications will be provided throughout the District.

School District personnel should be provided with and/or informed of opportunities for training in the initial use of telecommunications.

Ongoing inservice and technical support should also be available.

Community Involvement

Parents will be informed on telecommunications issues so that they can understand instructional applications and can foster responsible home use.

Community members will be provided with opportunities to be involved in issues relating to telecommunications.
