5751 - PREGNANT STUDENTS
The Board of Education affirms the right of a pregnant student to continue her participation in the school program. The Board shall assist such students to complete their education to the fullest extent possible with the realization that some courses are impossible to complete at home.
As soon as the pregnancy is medically confirmed, the Board recommends that the student consult with a member of the special services staff and the principal to plan her educational program.
The administration is authorized to make special arrangements for the instruction of the pregnant student and to provide an educational program designed to meet her special needs. She must remain in her present school program with modifications as necessary, until her physician states she is no longer to do so. She may return to school when her physician states that she is physically able.
Homebound instructional procedures (Policy #2412) will be followed if they are needed. Efforts will be made to see that the educational program of the student is disrupted as little as possible; that she receives health and counseling services, as well as instruction; that she is encouraged to return to high school after delivery; and that she is given every opportunity to complete high school.
