5455 - ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATION IN INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS

The Bay Village Board of Education will enforce the eligibility requirements of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

In order to be eligible in grades 9-12, a student must be currently enrolled and must have been enrolled in school the immediately preceding grading period. During the preceding grading period, the student must have received passing grades in a minimum of four (4) one-credit courses or the equivalent which count toward graduation, and earn a grade point average of 1.5 or above beginning with the second nine (9) weeks of the 1998-99 school year.

A student enrolling in the seventh grade for the first time will be eligible for the first grading period regardless of previous academic achievement. Thereafter, in order to be eligible, a student in grade 7 or 8 must be currently enrolled and must have been enrolled in school the immediately preceding grading period and received passing grades during the grading period in seventy-five percent (75%) of those subjects carried the preceding grading period in which the student was enrolled, and earn a grade point average of 1.5 or above beginning with the second nine (9) weeks of the 1998-99 school year.

For students who are identified for special education services, the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Team may modify grade point average requirements for athletic eligibility if the Team determines the student's disability will otherwise preclude the student from participating in the activity. However, the IEP Team may not modify the eligibility requirements of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Students may participate in interscholastic extra-curricular activities if they receive a failing grade for any course in the immediately preceding grading period, provided they meet the eligibility requirements above.
