4220 - EVALUATION OF CLASSIFIED STAFF

The Board of Education recognizes the importance of implementing a program of classified staff member evaluations for the purpose of promoting individual job performance and improving services to students.

The goals of the Board's evaluation plan for classified personnel are:

 A.to improve and reinforce the skills, attitudes, and abilities which enable a classified staff member to be effective in achieving assigned job goals;

 B.to identify and remediate weaknesses which prevent a classified staff member from achieving the goals of assigned duties;

 C.establish a process of continuous and systematic classified staff member evaluation.

The staff evaluation program shall aim at the early identification of specific areas in which the individual classified staff member needs help so that appropriate assistance may be provided or arranged. A supervisor offering suggestions for improvement to a classified staff member shall not release that classified staff member from the responsibility to improve. If a classified staff member, after receiving a reasonable degree of assistance, fails to perform his/her assigned responsibilities in a satisfactory manner, dismissal or non-renewal procedures may be invoked. In such an instance, all relative evaluation documents may be used in the proceedings.

Evaluations shall be conducted of each classified staff member according to State statute and/or collectively bargained negotiated agreements. A classified staff member shall be given a copy of any documents relating to his/her performance which are to be placed in the personnel file.
