3120.06 - SELECTING STUDENT TEACHERS

The Board of Education encourages cooperation with State approved colleges and universities in the training of student teachers because the public school offers an essential ingredient - direct experience with students and teachers at work in the classroom, but certain safeguards have been found to be necessary for the best interests of all concerned.

The Board, recognizing its responsibility to improve the quality of teacher training and the contributions student teachers can make to the District, encourages and authorizes the Superintendent, or his/her designee, to arrange for the supervision and training of a reasonable number of such student teachers each year.

Certificated personnel who agree to serve as supervisors of student teachers may accept an honorarium or stipend directly from the teacher training institute for those services rendered outside the regular school day and above and beyond the duties and responsibilities specified in the teacher's job description.

The Superintendent and Treasurer are authorized to enter into a written agreement with the respective teacher training institution for such purposes.

The teacher training institution will be expected to provide liaison personnel who will discuss with the building principal and with the teacher to whom the student is assigned the broad objectives which the institution believes should be sought for the student. Such personnel are free to visit the classrooms to observe the student teacher at work.
