2628 - COMPETENCY BASED EDUCATION
The School District shall implement a locally developed competency based education program.
The purpose of the competency based education program is to ensure that students have attained the District's minimum standards of proficiency in at least reading, mathematics, and English composition. As a result of our competency based programs we expect:
| A. | to improve student achievement, | ||
| B. | to improve curriculum and instruction, and | ||
| C. | to strengthen school and community relations. |
Provisions shall be made for periodic assessment of student performance, including testing at least three (3) times; once in grades one (1) through four (4), once in grades five (5) through eight (8), and once in grades nine (9) through eleven (11). The Superintendent shall establish guidelines for the use of assessment results for instruction, program evaluation, intervention, guidance, and promotion decisions.
All competency based education programs shall be reviewed and updated at least once every five (5) years.
