2440 - SUMMER SCHOOL

The Board of Education shall conduct a summer school program whenever practical, of academic instruction for resident students of this District and such other students as the Board may admit.

Summer school instruction shall consist of reasonable and economically feasible courses for which there is sufficient demand. Summer school courses shall be designed to provide opportunities for students to improve learning skills, make up failed courses, enrich a scholastic program, and explore new academic areas.

The Board shall annually approve summer school program. In order to support such a program of summer instruction, the Board will:

 A.employ teaching and administrative staff.

 B.purchase such books, materials, supplies, and equipment as may be necessary.

 C.appoint an administrator as director.

 D.utilize school facilities as required.

 E.provide necessary custodial services.

 F.charge fees for all students at rates to be set annually by the Board.

The Superintendent shall be responsible for developing administrative guidelines for:

 A.planning the summer school curriculum, and

 B.recommending the appointment of staff that are properly certified in the subject or grade to be taught and which gives preference to teachers in the School District.

Such guidelines for the operation of the summer school shall be consistent with Board policies, and the operation of summer school shall not conflict in any way with the administration of the regular school sessions of this District.
