2210 - CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

The Board of Education desires a broad based curriculum which will meet its goal for educational excellence. The Board shall encourage the staff to investigate new curricular trends, develop and improve curricular offerings, and evaluate results. The Superintendent shall provide for curriculum development through the use of the professional staff, consultants, and available research.

For purposes of this policy, curriculum shall be defined as all the planned activities of the schools, including formal classroom instruction and out-of-class activity, both individual and group.

The curriculum of this District shall:

 A.be consistent with the District and school statement of philosophy and student outcomes and result in their achievement,

 B.provide for continuous learning through effective articulation and teaching at all levels of the District,

 C.contain all courses required by the State Department of Education, and

 D.provide for the educational needs of all students.

The administration and faculty shall be alert to conditions that may require changes in the curriculum including admission requirements for colleges and universities.

The administration and staff shall undertake the evaluation and revision of all courses at least once every five (5) years.

Regular reports on District programs and ongoing curriculum studies shall be made to the Board. Recommendations for curriculum revisions or new courses shall be presented for its approval.
