2110 - STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

Mission

The Board of Education and all school personnel shall provide each student with the opportunity to acquire organized knowledge in core academic fields, intellectual and problem solving skills, and a strong, healthy attitude toward lifelong learning. Staff members in partnership with parents, through example and direction, shall promote the habits, understandings, attitudes, and skills necessary for all individuals to live socially responsible and personally satisfying lives. Students shall be encouraged to be self-reliant, productive, participating, and contributing citizens of the local, State, National, and world communities.

The authority for the organization of the School District is based on the Constitution of the State of Ohio. The schools shall operate within the laws of the State and the Standards of the Ohio Board of Education.

The School District shall maximize available resources in the pursuit of academic excellence while maintaining accountability to the public served. The School District shall continue to call upon the collective resources of this unique community in meeting the changing educational requirements of the future.

Ample opportunities for developing a sense of self worth and accomplishment shall be provided each student through participation in planned and informal learning activities which are appropriately challenging and stimulating.

Outcomes of Education

As a result of interaction between students and the various elements of the School System, the following outcomes shall be sought:

 A.the acquisition of organized knowledge in the core fields of reading, writing, speaking, listening, languages, literature, mathematics, science, health, and social studies plus the skills and habits that readily promote lifelong acquisition of additional knowledge,

 B.the development of intellectual skills in problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, self-discipline, self-direction, and the personal commitment to ideals,

 C.the formation of values related to beauty, participation, and commitment through experience in sports, performing arts, or other student activities outside the regular academic curriculum,

 D.the development of respect for individual differences and diverse opinions,

 E.the development of skills required to effectively function in the American social, economic, and political systems, and

 F.the development of an appreciation of music, art, and fine arts in an atmosphere which fosters unique talents for imagination and creativity.

The School District will determine academic and behavioral requirements with the best interest of the students in mind and apply these expectations with sensitivity to each student's life experiences and present environment.
