1230 - SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Responsibility
:In the performance of his/her duties, the Superintendent is directly responsible to the Board of Education.
General Duties
:Administers the planning, development, coordination, and evaluation of the total operation of the school system.
Specific Duties
:| A. | Serves as the chief executive officer of the Board in its conduct of the schools and of agencies and activities under its control. | ||
| B. | Attends Board meetings and makes recommendations which are vital for the continuous improvement of the schools. | ||
| C. | Has the over-all responsibility for the general administration and supervision of all phases of the school except such duties as are required of the Treasurer by law or are assigned to the Treasurer by the Board. | ||
| D. | Delegates responsibility for the operation of the various administrative units but is responsible to the Board for the results produced. | ||
| E. | Recommends for appointment all educational and non-educational personnel, including both administrative and non-administrative employees. | ||
| F. | Makes needed personnel adjustments, assignments, and transfers. Approves and recommends to the Board leaves of absence, salary adjustments, and the suspension and dismissal of personnel for just cause. | ||
| G. | Conducts a continuous evaluation of the educational program and of all personnel. | ||
| H. | Administers the schools in conformity with the adopted policies of the Board, the provisions of the statutes of the State of Ohio, and the rules and regulations of the State Department of Education. | ||
| I. | Conducts a complete and forthright program of public information and relations. | ||
| J. | Provides information to the Board and the people of the community relative to classroom activities, co-curricular activities, reports to parents, PTA, etc. | ||
| K. | Develops and issues handbooks, bulletins, and other publications deemed necessary. | ||
| L. | Supervises the preparation of the annual budget and the annual appropriation resolution with the aid of the Treasurer, the Assistant Superintendent, and such other staff members as may be needed. | ||
| M. | Serves as the Board's professional advisor in all matters and recommends appropriate school policies for its consideration. | ||
| N. | Recommends the purchase of equipment, books, and supplies that are appropriate for the purposes and needs of the school system. | ||
| O. | Recommends the adoption of textbooks and courses of study which carry out the philosophy and objectives of the School District. | ||
| P. | Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Board. |
