5513 - CARE OF SCHOOL PROPERTY
Basic to the philosophy of the Board of Education is a respect for the rights of others. Students are urged to exercise this respect in regard to the belongings of others, including school property.
Attempts should be made to teach students respect for property including with the care of textbooks and the use of school materials and equipment.
Students who cause loss or damage to school property shall be subject to disciplinary measures and restitution.
The Superintendent may report to the legal authorities any student whose damage of school property has been serious or chronic in nature.
The Superintendent may report to the appropriate juvenile authorities any student whose damage of school property has been serious or chronic in nature.
The Board reserves the right to file a civil action in a court of competent authority against parents of a student who maliciously or willfully destroys District property.
The Superintendent shall develop procedures to implement this policy which include rules for the safekeeping and accounting of textbooks.
