5452 - SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
Purpose: Recognition of vocational performance, career motivation, and/or financial need for attending postsecondary training is afforded vocational students in day programs and full-time adult programs through the ACJVS Student Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund may also be used to defray the costs of seminars and/or workshops for students currently enrolled in full-time vocational programs.
Article I - Scholarship
| A. | Scholarships do not require any reimbursement to Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School Scholarship Fund. | ||
| B. | At least one (1) scholarship will be awarded each year, if a qualified candidate applies. | ||
| C. | Scholarships must be claimed within one-calendar year of the scholarship deadline, April 1st. Unclaimed scholarships will be cancelled and the amount re-entered in the active fund for dispersal. |
Article II - Executive Committee
| A. | The Student Scholarship Fund shall be administered by the scholarship committees. Membership of the day school scholarship committee shall include: one (1) administrator, one (1) guidance counselor, and three (3) day school faculty members. Committee members shall be appointed by the Superintendent and should be representative of the service areas. The Assistant Treasurer shall be an ex-officio member of the committee. Adult Scholarship committee members shall be appointed by the Superintendent. | ||
| B. | The committee members shall appoint one (1) member to serve as chairperson. The day school scholarship chairperson shall hold a minimum of two (2) meetings per year. | ||
| C. | The adult scholarship committee will meet as a scholarship need arises. | ||
| D. | The committee will meet after April 1st of each year to award scholarships to qualified applicants. |
Article III - Gifts/Fund Raising
| A. | An organization, firm, or individual may make donations to the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School Student Scholarship Fund. | ||
| B. | If the donor makes no request as to the use of his/her contribution, the scholarship committee will determine the use of the money. | ||
| C. | All donations will be acknowledged by the Superintendent. Each donor will receive a receipt of the said donation for income tax purposes. | ||
| D. | Donations should be directed to the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School. |
Article IV - Procedures for Application Scholarship
| A. | Interested students enrolled in the vocational school may request a scholarship award by completing the scholarship form. These forms may be obtained during the financial aid workshop in January, from the vocational school guidance counselors or the adult education office. | ||
| B. | All applications must be submitted to the scholarship committee chairperson by April 1st of each year for day students and for adult education students, as the need arises following the first grading period. | ||
| C. | Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to qualify for day school scholarships: |
| 1. | be a full-time student enrolled in a vocational program | |||
| 2. | have ninety percent (90%) attendance at the JVS, subject to review in cases of extended illness | |||
| 3. | be successful in his/her vocational and academic programs | |||
| 4. | have earned a 2.5 grade point average at the vocational school in both academic and vocational programs | |||
| 5. | have good character and citizenship | |||
| 6. | submit three written letters of recommendation |
