2110 - STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

The role of the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School District is to instill in each student the desire to be an educated person who gives responsible direction to his/her own life while maintaining respect for humanity. Our specialized role in the total education process is to provide planned experiences which will prepare each student for entry into useful employment. Occupational exploration experience and vocational instruction will stress the contribution of all occupations to the welfare of humankind. Through sound learning practices, students will be given opportunities to develop appreciation of the necessity for useful labor accomplished by all people.

Much of the motivation for sound learning and self-actualization comes from the student's drive to enhance his/her self-concept through positive achievement and to protect it through avoiding failure. With this in mind, curriculum materials should emphasize self-discovery rather than rote memorization.

Ideally, as a result of the self-discovery process, the education person will assume civic responsibility and will be a cooperating member of the world community. S/He will be sensitive to the disparities of human circumstances and will be tolerant of these differences. The Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School District will provide opportunities for students to be effective, productive, contributing, and self-actualized human beings.
