8670.01 - SCHOOL BUS REPLACEMENT
District buses used for the transportation of students to and from the nearest appropriate school shall be replaced, as funding is available, no later than the twelfth (12th) year of service or upon reaching 200,000 miles.
The transportation department will periodically review maintenance and operations data to assess the fiscal impact of the bus replacement schedule. The department will make recommendations for adjustments to the bus replacement schedule as indicated by the review.
The Director of Transportation will adopt procedures governing the repair and replacement of school buses. These procedures may be used to determine when a school bus may be replaced.
School buses removed from active transportation service to and from school may be retained as spare buses or used in other capacities as dictated by the Board.
School buses not retained by the District as spares or in other capacities will be turned over to the purchasing department for disposal.
The Board will be advised of any buses that remain in service beyond the thirteenth year or beyond 250,000 miles.
